Pick up a specific call ?
« on: June 23, 2008, 10:35:59 AM »
Hi,

I'm just discovering Asterisk and SAIL. Seems fine !

I tried successfully to pick up some calls using *8. But if there is two or several simultaneous calls, I cannot decide the one I will pick up with *8. Is there a way to do that ?

I'm using Thomson ST2030 phones.

Thanks.

Er.. no you can't.

Asterisk isn't a key system, it's  a PBX.

In any event, I'm not sure how you would decide which one to pick up anyway, except maybe based upon Caller-ID and if it's ringing at another phone you won't be able to see that anyway.

Confused

Hi,

Yes, what you say seems logical... However, I'm surprised that what I want is not possible. But maybe I was not precise enough

Well, one person has two phones, one cordless DECT and one normal phone on her desk. As this person is often roaming inside the factory, she is called generally on her DECT. But when she is at her desk, she should like to pickup the calls on her desk phone. In other words, I should like to pick up the call on a ringing phone from another phone, even if there is others calls in the same group...

One told me that it was possible with some traditional PABX. I don't know if it's true, however...

Ah OK...

You can put her DECT and her desk phone onto a separate callgroup of their own (asterisk can have up to 64 groups).  Now she will only pick up her own phone when she dials *8

Kind Regards

Ok, thanks.

No way to do this without puting the 2 phones in a separate group ?

Maybe, as we say in France, I want the butter and the money of the butter

:-)  In England we say "having your cake and eating it"

Another way you might do it is to put the two phones onto a ring group so that they both ring together.

Finally, you can put a call-forward on busy or no answer (*22*) onto the one which rings so that if she doesn't answer it will forward to the othet.

Kind Regards
