SME Server Hardware Redundancy
« on: August 17, 2008, 12:40:53 PM »

Hi all, newbie here, just inquiring about hardware failure and the options regarding redundancy as far as minimizing downtime and smooth backup of system and user files (emails and webservers etc...)
Are there any options with a server and a backup server working in unison, so that if one fails the other can be switched online as the backup server??
It may be an incredulous suggestion or option, the risk of hardware and system failure gives me the jeeby weegies, I'm trying to mitigate the work/time needed to restore to another server, in the case of hardware failure.
I currently use DAR for backup daily.

Thanks again.

Mary, as a followup for something else I'm looking at, is there any contrib that can replicate outlook, calendar sharing and synch etc..

Kind Regards John...just enjoying SME!

Please look at the Contribs page
http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Contrib

I'm not sure if the functionality you require is fully covered but try
Group Office
http://wiki.contribs.org/GroupOffice

or
egroupware

Why not try the other horde components, kronolith (Calender), Mnemo (notes), nag (tasks).  You can have shared calendars, notes, tasks, and address books (turba).  The newest released versions of the various horde components are in the smetest repo.
