server manager lost after clamav removal
« on: July 12, 2008, 07:13:10 AM »
I did not know that it was suicide. freshclam was giving me update failed messages. hence i upgraded clamav from version 0.92 to .93 after which my smtp started giving me error:452. Hence i disabled virus scanning for emails and the smtp worked. I decided to remove Clamav and install it again to see if this smtp error could be corrected. After going to software installer i selected manage packages individually and then removed 3 packages of clamav. just as i clicked remove i got a message" server has encountered an internal error" and that's the end of it. No server manager, no admin login only ssh access and root login  was working, i tried to perform yum update but no result. i tried to update from sme 7.3 cd but no result. i booted with a centOS live cd to see if my partitions and data files were accessible but they too didn't appear, i have prepared a new installation of sme7.3 and got the server online without data-files, now the daunting task remains that how do i recover my data. any help? i hope my case would be helpful to a lot as not to commit suicide. and the how to recover data.

Why are you starting a new thread? And why am I reading new details here?

This was all after i tried to get rid of smtp error:452. Anyways removing some files should not have destroyed the entire server. Now that it is destroyed it is time to do damage control and hence the new thread to focus on solutions for damage control. May be some-one might have over come accross such a situation

That might be true, but no all sorts off info are lying around scattered over multiple threads, this way it is relaly hard for others to try and help you (properly).
