Topic: smtp stop after clamav update

I am a linux novice but was able to set up a sme server 7.3 with over 20 domains and 50 users. The server is very stable and all its functions are runing. I have not updated the components since about two months since installation. recently i am getting this clamav error message.

Current working dir is /var/clamav

 I need to update clamav components. I went to server manager, software installer but could not find clamav in the list of components needed to be updated. Since i do not know command line linux please help me to issue a command fro root to update only clamav.

In the admin panel are there updates to be installed ?

As far as I know sme server still has not got the latest version of clam in the repos, but I'm sure the dev's are working on it.

• Login to your server-manager
• Click Software installer
• Click Change settings
• See what repositories are enabled (selected), click the ones you would like to enable (use Ctrl+left click to select multiple)
• When satisfied choose save

But if you would have looked around a bit you might have discovered that yourself as well.

i updated clam av and now my smtp has stopped functioning it gives me error 452. i read about in the forum but the solution mentioned about permissions being changed of /var/clamav is not appicable to my case. the permissions of the folder are group:clamav owner:clamav octal 0755 is that right? i then went to server-manager and disabled virus scanning and then smtp worked. i am putting last lines of smtpd:current below

it shows somekind of clamav error, hence it prompted me to disable e-mail virus scanning and try and it worked. now how do i get the virus scanning working again

the permissions on /var/spool/qpsmtpd are owner :qpsmtpd group:qpsmtpd octal 0750. is that right?

Those are current versions. Do not bother about the signature error this has to do with yum verifying packages and is not harmful.

Why are you even bothering about that, even if one of the core devs is asking you to use the bugtracker? Report it as a bug, if it is not a bug, it will be marked as such and closed. If it is a bug it will most likely be followed up to be fixed.

you have to change the group ID:

chmod g+s qpsmtpd

Dunno why it changes, but when I restore a backup, this happens to me and i cant send or receive mail until I make this change...

I have to agree with other people posting here - if you need help, its better to look for it in these forums. If you do report it as a bug, and it turns out its NOT a bug, youve wasted a lot of time and your server could remain down while its bug-ness is debated.

Forums are traditionally used for help - thats just the way it is on the web. Might be better to determine if its a bug here in these user-friendly, easy-to-search forums, and then move it to the tracker if it actually turns out to be. Seems a bit backward the way its being done currently...

The bug (http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4399) is stalled waiting for you to answer a question asked of you on 12th June. You also haven't provided the information requested of you in comment #1 of that bug.

Bug 4399, BTW, concerns an issue with restore from backup, not with clamav update.
