Backup to ftp
« on: July 31, 2008, 10:46:54 PM »
I just bought a Fritz! modem/router and connected a USB-drive to it.
I wanted to backup with DAR to this USB-disk, but now it seems like the USB-drive is only reachable tru ftp.
Has anyone experience with backing up to a ftp-address? I can't find any topics in one of the forums.

create your own script that make a local backup file (if you have enough space on disk), then transfer this file with ftp and, finally, delete it from the hd..

maybe easier to do than to say :-)

Stefano,

For me that's easier said than done. I'm also not sure if this is the right way to backup.
I first used the USB-disk directly on the server and thought it would be handy to backup to a disk somewhere else in my network so I would also be able to backup workstations to it.
Maybe I'd better reconnect the USB-disk to the server.

You can connect to the FRITZ! with Samba too, because your USB-Disk is visible for Windows Clients too. You must only use root as username and your Fritz Password. My SME makes every night an Dump of the MySQL Database and an tar archive of all User Email Folders. Then he connect to Fritz USB-Disk and copy the Archive to the Disk. After that, he disconnects from FRITZ. I´m using my own Shell Script to di this. I´ve made seven scripts, for every Day once. The Crontab Manager start the scripts every night at 03:30. So I have seven Backup Archives on my FRITZ Disk of the last seven Days.
