DELL PowerEdge 1550 & SME software
« on: August 19, 2008, 02:50:56 AM »
Greetings one and all!

Not new to SME as I had 6.x and upgrade running 3 years ago on an old system while I was in Iraq.
Admin'd it using SSL from Baghdad! Great piece of software. It ran 11 months, without a hiccup, until
lighting did its thing!

My questions to those of you that are using the latest version (or have experience using the older
releases) is, has anyone loaded and successfully run any variant of the SME software on a Dell
Poweredge 1550?

I picked up an entire server with all 3 bays holding SCSI drives, twin 1.13GHZ processors, twin built in NICs
and a host of other goodies for $150.00!!! Thought and still think thats a buy. I just purchased 2GIG of RAM
to upgrade from the 512MB installed and a spare power supply as these units are supposed to eat supplies
on a regular basis.

Any help, any links and all information is most welcome and looking forward to becoming a regular on this site.

Thanks in advance, one and all.                                               Mike

PS. I am an Radio Amatuer as well and I mention that because as a 'HAM', the IP (Class A) 44.100.48.33 has been
assigned to my callsign and did I mention that this IP assignment is free, if you are a licensed Amateur????

Sooooo, want a class A IP???? They aren't cheap, but mine was free. Leave a message here and I will share the howz
you go about it, to get the address and the license. Do a 'whois' for the above IP and it will show it is registered to
KC4TEQ, my callsign.
