SME Server domain and real domain :(
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:56:28 PM »
Hi!

1). I have the REAL domain - domain.my and internet site - www.domain.my

2). In SME Server in "Domain" I have written the domain (workgroup) - domain.my

3). Now users are appointed e-mails - login@domain.my

4). If from local net I address to www.domain.my - I get on LOCAL a site, instead of on INTERNET site.

 A question!

I have specially put LOCAL DOMAIN=INTERNET DOMAIN for an e-mail. If I change a name local domain on "blablabla.xxx", and change SMTP and POP3 section on ISP servers on domain.my - I will have email a kind name@blablabla.xxx instead of name@domain.my How to use email?

Hi!

3). Now users are appointed e-mails - login@domain.my
and all your e-mail should be managed by your new server (SME7). Isn´t this ok ? Have you opened port 25 on firewall/routers to receive e-mails on SME server ?

ok... that have 2 solutions:
a) change index.html to redirect to external site
b) change www on hosts page to point to another IP (will not work with shared hosting!)

This way, both users (internal and external) will see www.domain.my as your external hosted site.

This solve your doubts ? (I hope so... I just couldn´t understand your last paragraph ! (My first lang is Brazilian Portuguese... so can be MY problem!;)  )

Hmm,
I have conifgured my server as followed:

my sme server is configured as mydomainname.local
and i have add under the domain section my internetdomain name.
the mail server ist configured to send emails via an the smtp server of my provider
and horde has the information to say that he is sending from my internetdomain name.
that works fine for my.
no probs the server accepts external mails from my domain no probs.

ok i have access to  my domain DNS entry's so i can say which server is the correct mail server.

thats it

so long shodan

Thanks! IT'S WORKING!

At first, sorry for my bad English, I from Russia, Moscow....
In the second I thought that have made an error, having included SERVER ONLY mode - yes I have made an error.
My internet Provider have one share an e-mail which collects e-mails for all users. (multi-drop) But "server only" mode do not support this!

Quote
The an e-mail retrieval mode can be set to standard (for dedicated Internet connections), ETRN (recommended for dialup connections), or multi-drop (for dialup connections if ETRN is not supported by your Internet provider). Note that multi-drop mode is the only option available when the server is configured in private server and gateway mode.

I have made two domains - primary MYFIRM.LOCAL=WINDOWS DOMAIN (samba) (Domain Controller is on) and the second domain MYFIRM.RU

Quote
Current list of domains Domain name Brief description Content Domain DNS servers Modify Remove
impexcl.local Primary domain Primary Resolve locally Modify
impexcl.ru Corporative Domain Primary Internet DNS servers Modify Remove

Local WWW site = www.myfirm.local instead of www.myfirm.ru.
After I have made "Create starter web site" (LOCAL), if I have not made they be there is no access to Corporate INTERNET external server) -  after i could get enter on corporate WWW server - www.myfirm.ru an E-mail settings is adjusted on reception mails via POP3 (multi-drop) and transfer via SMTP Local network is made on the second net-card (and MYFIRM.LOCAL domain), and is visible as 192.168.1.1-255 via DHCP.
