Using remastersys with SME Server
« on: January 01, 2009, 01:50:42 PM »
I have been using PCLinuxOS for quite some time and have gotten used to the famous "remasterme" utility that creates a live cd of the current installation to be deployed anywhere else. Then I moved to Ubuntu and found "remastersys" utility that could do the job reasonably well.

I was wondering if it is possible to have this feature made available in SME too and if it is already available then please advise me how to get it done.

thanks.

Hi

a question for you: why?

moving SME to new hw or simply restore from backup is so easy and fast (even if you are working with different hw) that I can't see any utility in something like remasterme/remastersys.

and, more, if you use Affa (look in the wiki) you can have a clone of your server up and running in less than 10 minutes.

anyway, with SME 6.X there was a mondo/mindi contrib/howto, but it doesn't work with SME 7.x because of (AFAIR) LVM

Just to 2nd Stefano's remark...

Imho "remasterme" has no place in SME (-Server!) terrain.

AFFA is the best thing since sliced bread and once you have digested:

you will simply adore SME & Michael Weinberger's script
