Global Address book for Multiple Users
« on: May 20, 2009, 08:35:18 AM »
Good Day

I am looking for a way to create a global address book for multiple users, I was thinking using the turba module on horde, and all the users will be able to access the address book via Outlook,??

Anybody know a way of doing this??

I am not looking to use the contrib theaddressbook, as it is a LDAP book, and I cannot import my 7000 contacts from an excel document into the LDAP address book.

This should work (even if it's not the best solution):
* Load Turba
* Create a user account to use for the shared contact list
* Install "Funambol" on all users' computers
* Configure "Funambol" to sync the users' contact folders with the account containing the shared contacts

Here's a wiki page on Funambol setup: http://wiki.contribs.org/Horde_and_Funambol_Synchronization

I am using Funambol to sync contacts between 2 desktops and my SME server - one desktop using a local .PST and one using Kerio's MAPI plugin - with good results.  I started playing with it in order to get my contacts onto my Blackberry - that piece doesn't work as well.

Be sure to read the wiki section about modifying horde settings (http://wiki.contribs.org/Horde_and_Funambol_Synchronization#Modify_Horde_Settings), or you'll get some odd behavior (if I remember correctly, without the modifications you don't get any contacts available in webmail, even though they sync ok with remote funambol users).  It is possible that the mods described in the wiki have already been incorporated into the SME core templates.
