SME and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
« on: September 26, 2008, 03:02:22 PM »
Does the SME currently support SOA?  Is it on the road-map?

Functionality could perhaps include:

- pushing SME events onto a message queue.
- exposing SME actions via web services.

Features as above would allow implementers to extend the SME using third party SOA tools such as an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).  These features would allow functionality such as automating backups, synchronizing data to a slave SME, and integrating the SME data to/from other applications (such as ERP, CRM, DMS).

Any thoughts?...

If you search the bug tracker for "SOA" or "Service Oriented Architecture" you will find out.

Hi Charlie,

Those search terms did not match any bugs (except for matching on SOAP-Lite)?  Am I searching wrong, or, are you saying that SOA is not supported and not on the road-map?

Many thanks,

Chris

You can do anything with SME. The only requirement is the "know how".
Of course SME can be customized as you want/can. Look at the wiki under "all pages" to see what you can do it with SME.
You must knowing what are you doing if you want your SME secure.

Hi Normando,

In the past I have customized SME installations, and I agree that you have to know what you are doing!  That is why I wanted to see if anyone has already done any work on SOA enabling the SME before I attempted to do anything myself.

Many thanks,

Chris

Those search terms did not match any bugs ...

In that case, then nobody has ever done any work, or proposed to do any work, to integrate Service Oriented Architecture with SME server. All development work happens through the Bug Tracker.
