Topic: Daily Error message please help.

As a linux newbie and being made an e-smith ver3.0 administrator, i recieve a daily error message.

errors occured while rotating /var/log/xferlog

stat of /var/log/xferlog failed: No such file or directory


I created the directory but there is no xferlog file.

Any advice would be appriciated.

I use that error message to notifiy me that a server is still up and doing well. By puttimg my email address in as the person to notify incase of error my client servers allemail me with the error message every day and I know all is well. I know that is not what it is intended for but it serves a purpose.

This error is a quirk in e-smith 3.0/3.1 that occurs when there is no FTP server activity. The server tries to rotate the log files every day, and if there is no log file the error message is generated. It is harmless.

In any case it has been fixed in e-smith 4.0 (the final beta for which will be released any day now!)
