Groupware - Twiggi / Twig replacements
« on: November 12, 2008, 09:04:41 PM »
Have enjoyed many good years of reliable/stable use of Twiggi.
One last server to migrate to new version of SMEServer.

This server has twiggi and a lot of "notes" and "todo" and "schedule" items that we want to carry ahead to new server.

The question is, those of you who may have also used Twiggi or Twig and the "notes" and "todo" and "schedule" as groupware, what did you replace it with?

I've also been using Twig mostly as a webmail/addressbook application. I've looked at several groupware solutions. Personally I've opted for eGroupWare (version 1.4.004) which you'll find as an sme contrib (http://wiki.contribs.org/Egroupware). It offers webmail, personal and shared address books, personal and shared calendars, infolog (todo list and notes), etc ...

You also might keep an eye on a new groupware solution Zarafa (http://wiki.contribs.org/Zarafa). But it hasn't been widely adapted yet here and looks a little bit more complicated installing and setting up. Of course, whatever solution you'll choose, you'll have to try and transfer your data from the twig database to the database of your new groupware solution. I advise you to set up a test server first for this purpose. And of course, install phpmyadmin or phpmyadminmulti.

I should have mentioned I loaded and liked zarafa, but like you say not ready for release.
I just loaded eGroupware to a new server, looks real good, but slow performance wise, do you see that as well?

I can't say (yet) it is any slower/faster than twig because I'm still in the process of rolling out egroupware. So it is maybe a little early to compare. Then again, speed also depends on so many factors (your network, server hardware, size of mailboxes, other web apps running on your server ...). BTW, I run egroupware on PHP5 as a CGI, I recall that somewhere on this forum a post says that egroupware runs faster on PHP4. Maybe there are other people here on this forum who can enlighten us on that point ...
