Request for help w/ server problem...
« on: January 30, 2009, 07:13:21 PM »
I've been using SME for the last 4 years in my business.  We suffered a power outage, and upon reboot I get an error at the log-in screen.  When I type my user id, it prompts as usual for password.  When entering the password, I get a "Power Failure, System Shutting Down" error.  After about 1 minute, the screen displays the shut down sequence.  I've tried different BIOS settings, no change.  I've done a search, but no help found.  I'm running 6.0.1 I think.... haven't ungraded as have not had a need to date.
Any help appreciated!!

IWhen entering the password, I get a "Power Failure, System Shutting Down" error.

That's not a standard SME server feature. Perhaps you have powstatd installed.

6.0.1 is very long out of date and unmaintained.  Have you heard of "preventative maintenance"?

.... perhaps I do, I installed some rpm's a few years back.. Is there a way around it???  And while I've heard of "preventive maintenance", I've also heard of "it it ain't broke don't fix it!"   :P
thanks for any help getting this back up...

sometimes with software it IS broke and you don't know it.

Please update to the latest version as soon as possible.

I would boot in single mode, disable any NON vital service (powstatd), check the fs, then reboot, make a backup and upgrade..

HTH
