For those of you mysql5 challenged, I decided to convert my system to run as a slave backend pointing to a master backend running as a guest application on VMWare 2 on my SME. In other words they are all on the same machine, master virtualized and no access to PCI capture cards; SME as slave with access to PCI capture cards.
In doing this, I isolate the SME's role to being exclusively a slave backend eliminating mysql changes on it as well as removing mythweb and other plug-ins.
In theory, if you have USB capture cards then you should be able to run this directly through to the guest application and eliminate any need of modifying the SME (aside form adding VMWare).
