The @ sign is something strange, that should have nothing to do with the disk being full or what so ever AFAIK. Have you been manually doing stuff on the command line perhaps?
What is the output of the following command on the command line interface when logged in as root:
Code: [Select]
df and
Code: [Select]
ls -la /home/e-smith/files/ibays

I do not see any @ in a folder name.
Why are the symlinks there? Is the target they are linked to mounted?

thank again, the @ or * can only be seen when using mc & yes the newdisk/ibays/account is on a mounted drive. The only strange thing is that , the account folder can't access , but the other which are without @ sign hee and namecard are able to access normally . will it help if I forward the boot log to you?

Ah, ok, you were using midnight commander.

The only strange thing is that , the account folder can't access , but the other which are without @ sign hee and namecard are able to access normally .
Perhaps a privileges/onership problem? What is the output of
Code: [Select]
ls -la /mnt/newdisk/ibays/
will it help if I forward the boot log to you?
No I don't think we find any clues there as you mention that other folders on the mounted drive are accessible.

No I don't think so as it seems that the permissions are wrong (as well):

Code: [Select]
-rwxrw----  1 root  www          184320 May 20  2008 account
What happens after you do:
Code: [Select]
chmod 755 /mnt/newdisk/ibays/account

What is your working directory? Did you already try removing the symlink and recreating it? What is the answer to nenonano's post?

Summary
  • the root ibay folder for the ibays "accounts", "hee" and "namecard" are all symlinks to mounted filesystems (note: midnight commander (MC) shows this by displaying an "@" in front of the filename)
  • the symlink target - /mnt/newdisk/ibays/account - is currently read only.  Attempts to change the permissions on the mount point return "read only file system"
  • raycheng has not posted the information requested by neonano and cactus in these posts.
  • raycheng has changed the problem description:

Advice
  • Try not to waste the time of people providing free support on the forum - if you alienate the people helping you they are likely to stop responding.  Nothing alienates a volunteer support person as much as completely ignoring their requests, then re-asking the same questions.
  • Tell us which problem you are actually experiencing - the original problem, or the latest problem.  That is, are you unable to access the ibay(s) in question, or are you simply unable to add or remove files and folders?
  • Post the requested information in your next response.  Do not re-post any new questions or comments until you have posted the information already requested.

In your NEXT post
  • run the command cat /etc/fstab and post the results
  • run the command mount and post the results
  • Enter the words "My problem is" followed by one of the following letters:
    • A if you are unable access any of the symlinked ibays
    • B if you are unable to add or remove files and folders from any of the symlinked ibays
    • C if the problem has changed since we started working on this issue - from "unable to access" to "unable to add or remove"
    • D if none of the above EXACTLY DESCRIBES your problem (Don't elaborate, you'll get more questions if it becomes necessary).

sorry for all the trouble , I will get back to all of you as I do not have access to the server during the week end.
1. I cannot access the account ibays , in whatever ways i try to. as you can see it prompt that it was not a directory.
2. few days ago when account ibays was accessable , the error was diskspace low and I cannot add , rename , create files but able to read.
I m still very new to SME , appreciate all your help and I m willing to learn as much as i can to contribute back to this forum.
thanks again
