Topic: Raid 1 issue SME 7.4

Using Intel BOXDQ35JO motherboard, 4GB RAM, seagate sata 500GB Hard drives.
I install sme 7.4 to single drive, do all updates etc.
Down server, connect second drive, use admin console to manage disks, it sees spare, and goes about mirroring, brutally slow.
Checking on it once in a while see:
Kernel panic - not syncing: drivers/ide/ide-io.c:1453 :spin_lock(drivers/ide/ide.c:c039d188) already locked by drivers/ide/ide-io.c/1

Have 4 new servers, all same config, all same result.
Only thing we have not tried is jumpering the drives down to 1.5mb vs 3mb.

Any one else with similar issue / resolution?

FWIW - we jumpered the two drives on one server down to 1.5MB and it has beey mirroring for nearly 12 hrs, now at 19.8%
