Network Printer problems.
« on: May 17, 2002, 06:03:09 PM »
I'm running 5.1.2 with many upgrades and tweaks, inlcluding the latest e-smith samba .rpm
I've read the e-smith manual, searched the forums, searched google, tried different steps, tried with windows, etc.
I've got a Lexmark Optra R+ hooked up to the network. I can ping it no problems. I can print via a windows host's parallel port no problems.
I gave it a static ip address, and also set it up as a resolved hostname.
I set it up as a network printer with server manager as per the instructions, and then several possible variations.
I've tried mapping it via a port to a network eg \server\optra and got nowhere.
I've tried the standard windows wizard method of mapping a network server and got nowhere.
Anyone have any suggestions that don't involve wooden stakes or holy water?
I'm seeing a few posts previously regarding printing problems.

Try,
-Find ACITS LPR for win32 on the Internet and install on a client.
-Install a driver for your printer as a "local"printer.
-Add a new "port" from "properties" of above printer.
-Select "other" and "ACITS LPR" when prompted.
-Enter a "hostname" for this "port" as the printers "IP address" and "RAW" for queue.
--Or enter SMESERVER(or IP) as a "hostname" and for "queue", the printer
--name as defined on the smeserver.

This will give you the ability to print directly or through the sme box to your networked printer.

Thanks RJ.
Win2000 and above have no problems doing a straight print to a network printer once the drivers and ip port are configured.
Win98 uses the solution you suggested. Thanks very much!
