« on: January 28, 2009, 08:37:19 AM »
Hi, I've installed the contribs for Joomla! but I thinks this is not the latest version of Joomla!
How can I get the latest Joomla! Code to be installed on my sme 7.4 ?

I think there is also an update on phpBB2.
Thanks for your help

After installing Joomla you should immediately upgrade your Joomla installation to the latest version 1.5.9. Go to http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/frs/?action=FrsReleaseView&release_id=9293. If, for example, you now have the 1.5.4 version installed you should download and install the 1.5.4 to 1.5.9 update patch. (You can check which version you have installed now by logging in at the Joomla backend administrator. The version number is displayed in the right top corner.)

Don't wait with the installation of the Joomla 1.5.9 update because a critical security issue was fixed in one of the latest patches.

This is why I've asked this question.
I was thinking that I'll fetch the latest Joomla SME contribs to use the latest version, which is 1.5.9 To Day
Thanks
I'll check this, but I think that the version used is 1.5.0

I myself have not gone with the Joomla SME contribs ... there way out of date.

Instead I setup joomla in ibays ... very easy to setup and keep current.

...or just as easy:

Begin with Smesitemaker, and continue with installing Joomla "the normal way" under /opt/yoursite

Hi Tib,

I am trying to install the latest version of Joomla 1.5 in an i-bay and have run into a hurdle. From your successful intallation experience, you could advise me on the entries to make in the following install step 5:

FTP Configuration
FTP User = ?
FTP password = (i assume this will be i-bay password ?)
FTP Root Path = ?

Advanced Settings:
FTP Host = 127.0.0.1 (any change ?)
FTP Port = 21

------------------------------------------------------------------

In the SME control Panel, how should I configure the i-bay I am using for
the above install ?

Group    = Admin (?)
User access via file sharing or user ftp = (write=admin, read=group) ?
Public access via web or anonymous ftp = (Entire Internet - no password) ?
Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI) = (Enabled)

My questions:
-------------
a) Is it necessary to 'reset' the pw for the i-bay and enter a password and
use this password in the Joomla install configuration page ??
    - If i do this, then when i visit the site, the http page also would require
this password - right ? which is NOT what I want.

b) Is it safe to configure the i-bay for FTP access on port 21, since this would
open up the i-bay for anyone to access using FTP.

Would appreciate some advise on the above configuration issue based on your experience.

Thanks. Festus

Hi, Festus

I don't use the ftp on my own server ... I can have a look at my external joomla installs and get back to you.

In the SME control Panel:

Group    = Admin (?) ... Yes

User access via file sharing or user ftp = (write=admin, read=group) ? ... Yes

Public access via web or anonymous ftp = (Entire Internet - no password) ? ... Yes

Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI) = (Enabled) ... Yes

a) ... no do not rest the password cause that's exactly what will happen.

b) ... again .. I don't use ftp on my server ... I use winscp to upload everything I want.

On my external sites I use ftp ... but I don't know how they are setup ... if there in ibays or not.

Be aware though ... many with greater knowledge then I don't recommend setting up in ibays ... but to us noobs who don't know how to setup in /opt ... this is the way.

I will one day have a look at how the old joomla package was put together and see how easy it is to update etc.

I did try it once but all my files got over written and lost the site ... so something didn't work right so I stopped using it.

Also when you setup your database for some reason on the external sites it has a prefix of _ei after the database name eg: databasename_ei ... I'm told it's the way to do it or you have user login problems if you enable that feature .... also use jos153_ for the Database Prefix

OK for the ftp:

FTP User = this can ba a user with Super Administrator wrights

FTP password = will be the users password

FTP Root Path = this is not filled in .... but I would think it's /home/e-smith/files/ibays/youribay/html .... you can change all this in the admin panel after you install joomla anyway.

FTP Host = 127.0.0.1 ... is correct

FTP Port = 21 unless you change it to some other port.

ftp can be dissabled within joomla as well so when you don't need the ftp I turn it off.

Just reading jumbas's reply ... you may want to try out Smesitemaker and install it that way.

I have never used this contrib as yet but will give it a go in the next few days .... if there is a safer way to install things I'm up for it

Regards,

Tib.
