ipp2p for kernel 2.6.9-78.0.8 and for upcoming 2.6.9-78.0.13
« on: February 18, 2009, 11:01:10 AM »
Hi,

i've just compile ipp2p for new kernel.

thx you to TEST it and tell me here if everything is ok. install using "rpm -Uvh" the right kmod (check your kernel version doing "uname -a")

http://jeremielorente.free.fr/linux/sme/contribs/ipp2p/ipp2p-0.8.2-4.el4.sme.i686.rpm

kernel 2.6.9-78.0.8:

http://jeremielorente.free.fr/linux/sme/contribs/ipp2p/kmod-ipp2p-0.8.2-1.2.6.9_78.0.8.EL.i686.rpm
http://jeremielorente.free.fr/linux/sme/contribs/ipp2p/kmod-ipp2p-smp-0.8.2-1.2.6.9_78.0.8.EL.i686.rpm

next kernel 2.6.9-78.0.13:

http://jeremielorente.free.fr/linux/sme/contribs/ipp2p/kmod-ipp2p-0.8.2-1.2.6.9_78.0.13.EL.i686.rpm
http://jeremielorente.free.fr/linux/sme/contribs/ipp2p/kmod-ipp2p-smp-0.8.2-1.2.6.9_78.0.13.EL.i686.rpm

after install:

/sbin/e-smith/config setprop masq \
ipp2p-ipp2p tcp \
ipp2p-ares tcp \
ipp2p-apple tcp \
ipp2p-winmx tcp \
ipp2p-soul tcp \
ipp2p-bit tcp

then:

/etc/rc7.d/S36masq restart

finish with a post upgrade/reboot from the manager panel or:

signal-event post-upgrade
signal-event reboot

thx for your return

Great work! There used to be an smeserver-ipp2p integration RPM that did all of the heavy lifting for this software. It seems to have disappeared - does anyone remember where it was being stored?

I was just having a look at http://www.ipp2p.org/
The last release of it was back in 2006 I think.
Would one not be better looking at something like layer 7

Just an opinion

Yes, i've seen layer7. it may be a very good option, but the big problem is that kernel have to be recompiled. So as the sme kernel is the same than centos, i think we will not be able to use layer7 as centos didn't add layer7 option in the kernel...

if someone can confirm...

In the short term IPP2P is already integrated into SME Server with an RPM package.

With regards to Layer7, you are right, the HOWTO says that it requires patching both the kernel AND iptables. Unless the required additions can be built as modules, this is never going to get into the SME Server kernel unless it is adopted by Red Hat.
