Wiki Contribs list
« on: March 25, 2009, 06:27:45 AM »
Hi,
I just had a quick question. I know we have a listing of Contribs in the wiki at http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Contrib

But I've noticed a lot of ones I use (eg, logonscript, password advanced options) aren't listed there, and everytime I want to set up a new box, I need to go searching the forums for the location to download them.

Are they not listed there because they don't comply with all the rules for that Contrib section? Or is there another location I should be looking? I noticed this post: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,20688.0.html   but I'm not sure if anything came of it, or if the result is the contribs section of the wiki above?

(P.S. Thought I should also mention that I know you can run
Code: [Select]
yum --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=smecontribs list available

Thanks for any info

The general idea indeed is that all contribs should eventually be in the SME contribs repository, the bugtracker and when they conform to that they should be documented in the wiki (prefferably in that order IMHO).

We like to endorse some sort of quality and peer-review as the coding qualities of contribs is sub-optimal for a lot of them, especially those living outside SME contribs repository.

Is there a contrib for shoutcast?

Can't see anything in searching the forum, wiki, or bug tracker...so I'd have to say the chances don't look good...

I had always thought of the HOW-TOs area http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Howto as a good place for contributions that have not yet met the criteria to be a formal 'contrib'?

Having just written my first HOW-TO (for Firefly media server) last night and found it not too tricky, may I suggest that next time you search the forums for the location of your favorite contribs, you also paste your actions in to a HOW-TO page? (You can see I'm full of enthusiasm for this - like only the newly converted are  :P)

The fundamantal difference between a howto and a contrib is that a howto contains instructions on how to install and/or configure stuff from start to end and and that a contrib is a package in SME Server CVS packaged as a RPM that can be installed without manual intervention, apart form configuring some parameters.
