Topic: Dansguardian causes network error

Good morning,

I installed Dansguardian on my test server in server only configuration. I have been running for 1 day and have been configuring blacklists, phraselists and content scanner using the unofficial clamav signatures.

I pointed about 10 workstations at this server using the IP of the server and port 8080 in the proxy settings. Everything was happy for about 24hrs when suddenly the whole network (including workstations not proxied) began to sporadically lose connectivity to the internet. Using Colasoft Ping Tool I ran continuous ping on 5 hosts including my internal gateway and the first router on the ISP side of my connection. The pings to the internal gateway address remained solid. The pings to all addresses outside the network became very sporadic with about 3/4 of the pings lost.

When i issued a dansguardian stop the pings came back up perfectly.
When I issued a dansguardian start the problem returned as soon as dansguardian had started.

in watching the dansguardian access logfile I realized the nothing was being written too it. I deleted the log and disabled the content scanner. After restarting dansguardian all seemed to be OK with the network again.

Things I checked

1. The disk was not full
2. Memory seemed to not be a problem
3. The processor load was less then 10%

I suspect some sort of log rotation issue or some sort of error with the content scanner.

Can anyone shed some light on this or have you experienced anything like it?
