Help with simple setup please
« on: June 04, 2009, 03:09:32 PM »
I'm a little confused!  I have recorded two test voicemail messages on an extension, one an unavailable message and one a busy message.  I was under the impression that:

1. when an extension is dialed and not answered, the unavailable message would be played and the caller would then be prompted to leave message.

2. when an extension is dialed and is busy / engaged, the busy message would be played and the caller would then also be prompted to leave message.

When I test this I only get the unavailable message played after the usual 10s ringing delay.
Is this correct?

What I'm trying to achieve is during open periods the caller gets busy / unavailable message and prompted to leave message and during closed periods a "We are closed" message is played and again prompted to leave a message, all to the same voicemail.

What's the best way to achieve this please?

Thanks

Most SIP phones are "multi-presence".  They can handle multiple calls.  As a result, they never go "busy", or at least, not until all of their presences are in use.  That's why you get the 10s ring on the second call; the phone is using its second presence.   On some phones (e.g. Snom), you can set the phones into single presence mode, in which case they will go "busy" and use the busy message.

Most users use the open and closed trunk routing to handle open/closed messages and Vmail routing.

Kind Regards

Hi, thanks for the reply,
One of the extensions is a Siemens A580 IP - I set "Allow 1 VoIP call only" to yes and now when I dial this extension and it's in use I get dropped to voicemail straight away. However, it's still the unavailable rather than busy message I hear.

Most users use the open and closed trunk routing to handle open/closed messages and Vmail routing.

That's what I'm trying to do but I'm not sure how to go about it.
I have my open and closed times defined.  Do I now create a custom greeting?  If so how do I tell the system to play the custom greeting then go to voicemail.

Thanks

Norrie

use an empty IVR which specifies the greeting and outcomes to the voicemailbox you want (i.e. *5000 or *5001 etc), or create a custom app which plays the greetings and then call voicemail.

Either will work
