Topic: New to SME Server - Need help setting up automated backups

Hi,

I am a new user with v limited non windows experience.

Have set up sme server and is successfully runnin a windows domain with 6 pc's running xp.
I have set up several ibays holding a total of about 30gb of data.

I have hardware raid running on the server but i also want to set up an automated backup to another machine.
Ideally this would be to an external usb drive attached to the server, or alternatively to a shared drive on on eof the xp machines.

I have found the advice on forumns a lkittle confusing and I am hoping someone can provide a simple step by step guide..

I did read that page just a bit unsure of whether the USB drive needs to attached to the server or the desktop machine that I am using to access the server manager gui?

I prefer if i can leave usb drive attached to server so that back up can take place and i can switch off desktops at night..

Sorry if i am a bit slow on the uptake here.. but i was reallly lookin for step by step basic info

Backup to workstation provides for daily full or incremental backup on LAN workstation (via nfs or cifs) or local usb disk, and full or selective restore with use of dar program.

in this case, "local usb disk" is referred to an usb disk attached to SME server

I've had success backing up to a Windows workstation using robocopy or the excellent and free SyncBack.
