Topic: Connect without logging in?

First, please excuse my little flurry of posts, I am new to this. but I have it working now and ready for testing in my network.

My network is very simple, all in my house, and I have no need for logins (yes, I know the risks). I play with a lot of computers (retired SW engr), rebooting often (including the one running SME), and I do not want to have to log in to the server each time.

Is there a way to set this up?

zbaba4, you don't need to log in each time.. normally SME servers are without keyboard and screen..

please take some time to read carefully the documentation

I don't mean log onto the server from SME boot, I mean to connect from Windows or set up a mapped drive. Windows always prompts for a name/password . Setting up users and groups on the server always requires a password.

This page show how to access share without ask for a password.
Instructions are to one share in read only... you can adapter from there.

Please report your changes... so you can create a HowTo in future.

The easiest way is to setup your comp so it asks for a user and pass when you first start up

Then setup the same user with the same password on the server.

From then on you only have to log into your PC once and all shares etc on the server will not ask for user/pass as long as that user has access to the ibays.

It is so easy and a lot less stuffing around.

Plus you have the security there as well.

I'm sure the one off user/pass isn't that big of a burden.
