Horde Webmail Login
« on: June 28, 2009, 07:12:57 AM »
I cannot log into webmail. It is enabled, the page loads but it will not allow access to my account. I am entering account-name@domain.xxx and my account password, and it keeps giving me the "Login failed because..." message.  I have tried all the typical pseudonyms such as first.lastname, first_lastname etc.  I cannot seem to figure this out.  I have even created new users and still nothing.  I have pop3 access working fine through Outlook etc.  Any help appreciated.

Eneter the account username (  eg mattymag ) only in the username field( leave out the @domain.xxx portion)  and the password for the user;

Sorry, I did not mention that I have also tried just the user name and password with no success.

Have you enabled webmail in server manager, for public access

By default webmail access uses https, so do you have port 443 open and forwarded if you are using a seperate modem/router.

Also check if your ISP is blocking ports ?

Yes, it is enabled and ports are opened. I can navigate to the webmail logon screen.  No access at the local level either.

It would probably help if you told us the whole message !
Do you really expect us to guess or be capable of reading your mind !!!

Have you upgraded Horde or other mail components or made custom changes ?
What do these commands show

config show imp
config show horde

(you can obfuscate the passwords)

Mary,

The message reads, "Login failed because your username or password was entered incorrectly."

config show imp
imp=service
    access=SSL
    status=enabled

config show horde
horde=service
    Administration=enabled
    DbPassword= (data removed)
    Name= (domain.net)
    SecretKey= (data removed)
    access=SSL
    imp=installed
    status=enabled

You did not answer
"Have you upgraded Horde or other mail components or made custom changes ?"

Those settings look OK.
Your error message implies something wrong with the user name and password combination.

Are you using a different language and therefore the keyboard is entering the wrong characters ? This is a common occurrence, search the forums.

Mary,

Sorry - No custom changes, no upgrades other than the standard server yum updates.

Standard English configuration (keyboard etc.).

I have tried adding several new users with different passwords in the past to see if that was an issue, with the same results.

This is the message from the log file:

Jun 28 09:26:25 (SERVERNAME) HORDE[3908]: [imp] FAILED LOGIN for (user) [IP ADDRESS] to {localhost:143 [imap/notls]} [pid 3908 on line 139 of "/home/httpd/html/horde/imp/lib/Auth/imp.php"]

Thank you for being patient and helping  :smile:

I suggest you lodge a bug report at Bugzilla providing the details mentioned in this thread. Link is at the top of these forums.

The only other generic suggestion I have is to do
signal-event post-upgrade
signal-event reboot

and see if that helps, but doing so may remove forensic evidence, that may be required if you lodge a bug report.

I had the same problem today.
Some days ago i disabled IMAPS (used for some tests, not really necessary). Today i was trying enter in horde but every user/password i tried wasn't correct.
Restarting IMAPS all works fine.
Could be a bug or is it normal?

(Sorry 4 my English :))

bye

I just experienced the same situation.

Zen's remark was very informative, I just disabled IMAP(S) myself the other day.

Re-enabling IMAPS and performing a signal-event post-upgrade & reboot, and it work as it used to.

seems that IMAP needs to be enabled to use webmail...

So thanks for the hint!

Here you mention IMAP, IMAP and IMAP(S). I am therefore confused as to what you actually did. You said that you hadn't made any custom changes, so I do not know how you disabled IMAP.

It is correct that IMAP is required for webmail.

@ Charley:

All I did was enter server manager > Email > Change email access setting.
I 've set POP3 and IMAP to disabled. I've set Webmail access to allow (all users only use webmail).

Doing so, I did not see any information or warning that disabling IMAP interferes with webmail login (in the way I described above).

I didn't mention I made no custom changes (but MartyMag did), although I indeed did not. In my opinion I merely changed some settings in the server manager.

I hope this takes away your confusion, but if not, please ask.
