The rpm on the sme8beta4 CD is
php-5.1.6-23.2.el5_3.i386.rpm
and while I'm at it
the mysql rpm is
mysql-5.0.45-7.el5.i386.rpm

Mary, Tried all that and it does not work with some of the templates that are out. David may be on to somethinrg. I have reports that some newer versions of php have scripts out to defeat security and that is the reason php has jumped (2) revisions up and of course the people that make the templates are always on top of the latest and greatest. This might be a good way to judge what version that should be used and not the most current but the one (stable) that has the real security. Lets see..... I also hope that I can see how the other guy get the cgi to work.  Carl

Please be factually correct, you were claiming that sme8 still used php 4.1.3 which it clearly does not.
Let's also be reasonable and not expect or demand templates to work with a php version that they are not designed to work with.
Upgrade php if you must use bleeding edge templates.

I use Joomla 1.5.11 on an unmodified sme7.4 and it works OK, but I do not use fancy incompatible templates.
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

Yes please advise your "recipe" for configuring a sme7.4 server.
I assume you initially followthe php cgi howto here
http://wiki.contribs.org/PHP5

Please explain what you did to install the updated version from CentOS any any other specific steps.
Thanks
Yes, this is what I've been using and works just fine, it reports as 5.2.8.
The "other" way is the non-recommended procedure, as it will break future upgrades!

I do :-D
And works just fine. Maybe Carl is having some others issues and thinking it's about PHP?

Please advise as to what you did. Step by step. Other people are getting the same results as me and NO iam not doing anything special. Joomla Templates Club is a well known and well respected club that programs by the rules and not by the B.S. Lets see what you did to make it work otherwise I am under the understanding that this does not work.. After all - 'Action talks and bs walks.' Lets see the results and hopfully the action.

Mary,
Joomla! 1.5.12 Released http://www.joomla.org/announcements/release-news/5242-joomla-1512-released.html was released to stop a security flaw by script kiddies, Please update. And you are correct I was wrong with my statement about the beta not using a more current version of PHP what I really was trying to say was the Kludge does not seem to work on 7.4. Iam still waiting to see the way the other person made it work on all of the Joomla sites that he is working on ) don't hold your breath). I will wait for the stable release of SME 8. Carl ;-) I have a flight to catch yack at you later.

Dear Carl,
The php-cgi works just fine, even with the updated version of Joomla 1.5.12 (see requirements as 5.2, and the php-cgi reports 5.2.8).

The php cgi method should work for you if you follow the Howto provided, as it works for others. There are no further instructions to provide to you.

I suggest that you list here all the steps you follow and commands you issue, exactly. Also list any errors you receive and where or how it is that you perceive the problem you are having.

If there is a problem with what you are doing then it should become obvious. If there is some other as yet undetermined issue, then hopefully that can be determined too.

It's up to you now to provide detailed information.
