Can't access private server from internal network
« on: June 03, 2002, 04:38:53 PM »
I am installing a new server and have choosen the "private server and gateway" operational mode. The machine will work on a dailup connection externally and an ethernet connection internally. However I don't seem to be able to connect to the machine from the internal network, I cannot even ping it. I can ping the internal network from the server if I specify 'ping -I eth0 xx.xx.xx.xx'.

Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Did you configure your clients correctly?

Do you use DHCP or fixed IP for your clients?

I configured the clients with fixed ip address (that will change some time, but have not had time for that yet).

OK, I cracked it. I was being plain stupid. In order to build the server I put it on a seperate subnet, however I had already assigned it its final ip-address, this meant that the subnet mask stopped me from accessing the box.

Sorry for unneccesarily contacting this forum.
