Sail - Different versions
« on: August 04, 2009, 05:03:57 AM »
I'm using sail-2.2.1-759 with zaptel.
Up to what version can I update my sail without having to upgrade to Dahdi?

Thanks,

Thanks S.,
I just can't get used to dahdi! I tried it, but had anomalies going with the card (like not detecting when a call was hung).
With Zaptel it simply works!

Yes, there are still a few little greenies in DAHDI but Digium seem to be slowly addressing them.  I would expect it to stabilize over the next few releases.  For now, the SAIL 2.2.x releases are Zap and the 2.3.x releases are DAHDI.  Up to now they are functionally the same but this will begin to diverge at some point becasue we don't want to maintain zaptel forever.

That makes perfect sense Selintra - but I agree with Franco that for the time being Zaptel is the better option.

Agreed.  Unfortunately tho' this will soon begin to cause friction as CentOS Kernels and Digium Asterisk releases drive ATrpms forward.   If you go to SME 8.0 (CentOS V) for example, then I'm no longer sure that you can get zaptel rpms for these kernels so you are pretty much forced to go DAHDI.
