Hylafax pdf generation with new Freetype update issue. [SOLVED]
« on: September 08, 2009, 04:14:17 AM »
Hello all,

On Friday (4th September 2009) I updated Freetype as it was indicated as an update via YUM. I believe it was for a security issue.

Since then, every now and then when a fax comes in via the hylafax server, the pdf of the fax is unable to be viewed using adobe when using Thunderbird (or any local email client) either by immediate opening or saving to disk and then opening. The strange thing is though that I can download the pdf via the email server (not SME) webmail client and it is viewable via the webpage adobe plugin with no problems. I can then save it to disk and foward it with no problems.

When looking at the saved pdf file from the local email client, there is no pdf information at all, it's all blank, but a working pdf will have pdf version info etc.

This issue has only just occurred since Friday, previously we've had no problems with the hylafax server.

Now because I can still read the pdf's when I use the webmail (roundcube) I'm kinda uncertain where the problem may be.

Can anyone suggest a place to look? I have checked the various logs on the fax and email server and cannot find anything unusual. I have also checked the centos forums but cannot see anything pertaining to any issues.

[EDIT: Hylafax version is the latest 4.4.4 as indicated via the contribs page.]

I'll raise a post in bugzilla after I exhaust all possibilities first.

Cheers,
Simon

Well i did a bit more research and found that the error seems to be in a mismatch between actual filesize and reported filesize for some attachments.

To solve the issue I simply had to change mail.server.default.fetch_by_chunks to false in Thunderbird and the pdf's are now being downloaded correctly.

I have no idea why it started around the same time of the freetype update, pure coincidence by the looks of it :)

[EDIT: Spelling]
