Topic: Can't install sme on asus P5W DH deluxe

Hi,
i have an asus P5W DH deluxe motherboad that where sleeping in is box for 1 year and worked verry well before ( with windows ).
i have a little problem for install sme on it.

I have 3 seagate 160go hard drives that worked perfectly but when i try to install sme i have problem with drive formating ( IO error read write ) .


I try to configure the bios especialy the sata chip ( intel ICH7 ) but but same error .

What option i must choose in the bios for the ich7 ?

AHCI ?
RAID ( No don't want hardware raid )
standard ide mode  ? (witch can be run as compatibility mode dos 98 ect or extended mode 2000 XP vista )

Any idea of what's wrong ?
Is there any driver to load during the install for the ich7 chipset ?

I run one of SME 7.4s on a more modern ASUS board with ICH9R. I have not required any special parameters to install or run the system. It works right out of the box.

I think you are heading in the right direction. It is simple to try the other drive modes. While I do run my drives as AHCI you may need to run yours in IDE compatible (your error sounds like this may be the issue). The other possibility is the drive itself. Although the broad error description you state doesn't support this, if the drives are not fresh then you may need to wipe the master boot record (MBR) as described in:

If that doesn't work, you could try another linux OS just to ensure that it is not the board.

Now it's work fine ...

What i do :

i change parameters in bios to sata work as standard ide
and put off all ide that have no disk or drive

when i try to install i do  sme all-generic-ide

and that's all.


( i'd would like to upgrade my dual amd mp 1600 processors with this board and a core2 duo 4300 because i have it in stock and it as ecc check option for memory now it works  THANKS)
