Problem Adding a new Network Printer in XP Clients
« on: October 05, 2009, 12:11:04 AM »
Dear, Friend I just Configure a SME server as a Domain Controller for my  small office and I configured two  small network Printer in order to be able to a print via network, but when I try to connect from the logged user those printers, I received the following error: "A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting  to this print queue. Please contact your system administrator."

Please let me know if I have to do an additional steps to let every user to add by him self the printer.

P.S. I did the following steps recommended in the link bellow but the problem still persist.

did the issue exist before you follow the wiki page? I mean, to add a shared printer it's not necessary to follow that howto..

This is a problem caused by a misconfiguration in win XP Client.

You can disable this policy in gpedit.msc, disabling "Point & Print restriction" policy under "User configuration" - "Administrative Templates" - "Control Panel" - "Printers" - "Point and Print Restrictions".
