Introducing another hard disk to array
« on: October 20, 2009, 03:58:50 PM »
Hi,

My company has recently bought a HP ML310 G5 server that came with a SATA Hot Swappable array. The standard package cam with only 1 x 250 GB hard disk and due to pressure I had to install SME Server on that single hard disk.

In a weeks time I will be getting another hard disk to be added to the array. I would like to know if it is possible to create a RAID 1 array on-the-fly as I add new hard disk to the running server. Please advise what is the process for creating RAID-1 when a new HDD is added at a later stage.

Thanks and Regards

smef@n:

please take some time to carafully read the documentation..

SME (if you DON'T use --noraid flag at setup time) will always create a Raid1 array even if with only one HD..

so, all you have to do (apart reading the documentation, of course) is add the second hd and add it to the array via the console

about hot-swap: I have 2 ML310G4 with hot-swap hd.. but I always prefer to shut-down the server ;-)

in any case, if you do an hot-add hd, let me know, thank you
