remove raid from current install
« on: October 26, 2009, 09:52:57 AM »
I'm just being a tad lazy.
I have a current install of 7.4 which has been upgraded from 7.0. It only runs a single drive but has been installed without using the noraid option as it was always going to have a drive added.

What I'm trying to do is go virtual, because for reasons I'd rather not go into I need a MS server o/s running but can't justify another box for it..

Anyway I've got ESXi running and have had 7.4 running damn nicely on it. But what I would really like to do is convert my current SME box to a VM using the Vmware convertor program. Unfortunately it spits the dummy because it thinks I am running raid and it won't convert raid volumes..

If I have to I'll do a full fresh install, but if anyone has any ideas I'm happy to try them out..

you don't need any kind of converter..

simply install a new SME on ESXi, then setup Affa and move the physical server on the virtual one..

it's just easier to do than to say

Thx Stefano, thats probably what I will end up doing.
Convertors ability to reproduce a running server and bring up its virtual replacement with minimum downtime looked interesting...

I've got 7.4 running on ESXi now, I'll get affa running this afternoon and see how we go from there..
