Asterisk kmdl rpm woes
« on: December 23, 2009, 11:09:28 AM »
As you know, Asterisk can be a pain if you regularly update your kernel release (which happens a lot on SME/CentOS/RH).  It is never easy to guarantee that someone (usually ATrpms) will have built an rpm for you or that an older rpm will still be available.  In an ideal world it would just work, but unfortunately in the real world it often doesn't.  Moreover, because SME Server has no devtools installed, it is also difficult to do as Digium recommend and install Asterisk and its components from source.

To that end, we've put a howto on the sarkpbx wiki showing you how to install Asterisk from sources on SME server.  We make no claims for this work and you follow its advice at your own risk.  If it breaks your SME Server then please feel free to keep all of the pieces.  The only absolute advice we would give is that you back everything up before you start.
