Reconfigure and reboot message permanently displayed
« on: December 11, 2009, 07:51:31 PM »
I have a server that was recently updated to 7.4, apparently successfully, using SSH and the command line.  The usual signal-event post-upgrade; signal event reboot was issued after update.

Now, on using the server manager, I see that the message 'Warning: a reconfigure and reboot is required..' is shown at the top of each page.

I have tried reconfiguring the system, both by manually issuing signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot, and also by using the reconfigure option from the server manager, however the message remains.  Also I cannot access the 'messages' log from server manager as it is not listed, so cannot obtain further clues.

I wonder if anyone can suggest how to proceed in finding the source of this problem, in particular, how do I access the messages log?

Thanks.

Barry.

Barry, the thread is a bit confusing in this bug, check comment #15 and comment #18 to start with.
Hope it helps.  If not, report your issue in the bugtracker, best to start a new bug, if a duplicate, it will sorts itself out, so no worries.

I'm the originator of this bug. So far, I've got no real resolution - the machine has been up for 95+ days, and does not respond to 'signal-event reboot' commands, or even to 'shutdown -r now' commands.

Unfortunately, its a fairly remote machine, and the owner is away, probably until near the end of next week. I'm hoping to visit when he's back and do some diagnotics on the hardware, as well as trying Charlie's setps to shut it down and restart it.

I've got a number of similar machines in the wild (mainly using HP/Compaq small-form-factor desktop boxes, since they're nice and compact). Not had too many problems with any of them until now.

I'll post once the results once I've had a chance to check the machine physically. Most of the time all I need is SSH, but I've not worked out how to push the power switch from an SSH login yet  :P

I'm the originator of this bug.
Then please do not start of a second track, please keep all information in one place, the bugtracker.

Just a follow-up: my problem was down to the server refusing to reboot or restart following upgrade.  The problem appeared to be to do with USB backup, but as I have no access to this server directly and no-one on site admits trying USB backup I can only guess.

Have posted more details against bug http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5631.

Thanks for all help and suggestions.
