Topic: Pleas help with PostgreSQL update to 8.3

Hi,

I have a problem: i need postgresql ver. 8.3 or newer, but in repository is only 8.1.15, which i`ve install. How do i upgrade it? How can i make yum see the newest version, or which version should i download from their server for a local install ?

Your post is off-topic for this forum, since SME server CDROM does not contain (any version of) postgresql.

By finding newer packages and crossing your fingers while installing them.

Your best bet for SME Server 7.x is the redhat el4-i386 versions, this should be the latest: ftp://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/binary/v8.4.2/linux/rpms/redhat/rhel-4-i386/ , but I am not sure if they will install and work OK.

I will try to use the current version since the server is in production and i have no time to setup an dedicated test server.
However, i`ve downloaded those packages for later use.

You could try a virtualization software package like VirtualBox, Xen or VMWare for that as well.
