Remote Pop3 / Imap Clients
« on: January 11, 2010, 06:02:39 PM »
I hope someone can help.

I need to find a quick, easy and secure way to connect remote POP3 or IMAP clients to an SME 7.4 for both send and receive.

Basically I have a requirement for connecting a mixture of Outlook, Blackberries and iPhones to an SME server, but due to the SMTP Relaying rules I cannot find an easy way to get them relaying email back through the SME Server.

Also what are the best ways to synchronise 2 or more clients with the same POP3 / IMAP account?  So they all folders are the same on each client a bit like a Microsoft Exchange server does.

Thanks in advance for you help.

if you use imap you don't need anything more: mails are on the server so every client that connects will see the same emails..

if you want something like exchange you can take a look to Zarafa

I use an iPhone, more than one workstation in my main office and another workstation in another remote office to connect to my user mail on sme server, via IMAP. Configure your email clients appropriately. You need to enable secure connection and use ports 465 & 993 but you should see that in your email client setup, same requirement on the iPhone.
