Beta testing
« on: January 30, 2010, 01:52:07 AM »
I have been a happy user of SME for a few years now, mostly for home use.  I'd like to help out more with beta testing but not sure exactly where to begin, SME8b5 just works and I haven't come across any bugs.  My question is, is there any specific area that need focusing on?  I've been using Windows for many years but Linux just the past few years and SME is what sparked my interest, Since I don't use the command line on a daily basis Linux in general has a sharp learning curve.

If I did find something I think could possibly be a bug, should I report it on the bug tracker or should I try to reproduce the error?  I would hate to post something on the bug tracker and end up being something that I did wrong due to my lack of knowledge with Linux and waste the Dev's time.

I have 1 extra server I can use so what would be a priority right now? 7.5 beta or 8.0 beta?

in the wiki you can check off more items such as the mail section http://wiki.contribs.org/SME8.0_QA#Email_.3F

more useful but harder is to verify fixed bugs, if unsure just ask
bugzilla / matrix / sme8 /resolved

I really think that the question is, what needs to be tested to lead us to a release candidate?

Without clear leardership and governence, I don't see us getting there. JMHO

P.S. No intension of insult was directed to those that keep this going.

They are good points, but beyond me I'm afraid.

Personally USB and LDAP were important to me and they are just about ready for verification

What else matters, the other sme8 bugs don't seem like show stoppers to me, if it is to you make it known

Windows 7 and samba seem important, for the life of me I can't work out what's been fixed, whats to do and what feature requests eg Active Directory are appropriate for working on now, All this will go into sme8 not 7
