TZO on e-smith?

Does anyone know if you can run the TZO deamon on an e-smith machine?

I read a review of e-smith that said you could not run any programs that are not part of e-smith.

Thanks,
Rob

I don't know about TZO, but I know that you can run other applications on E-Smith. However it may take some work to get them running how you like it. I know this doesn't help you at all. But I would say try and get your program running. Look for an RPM of it, because E-Smith doesn't have alot of needed compile software.

I don't know. What is the TZO daemon?

Where did you find that review? Please send E-smith a copy or an email containing a URL if it is on-line. It is just not true, and it would be good to be able to post a correction.

For information about how to add new software and features to the e-smith server/gateway, have a look at http://www.e-smith.org/custom/.

The review is from "The Computer Paper" it is a good review for E-Smith but that comment was misleading. I think what they were trying to say was that it cannot be used as an everyday machine. You basically have to decicate a computer to run this software. Thats what I got out of it

TZO provide a dynamic DNS service, which you can utilize from within e-smith.  What I did was to configure e-smith for a "custom" dynamic DNS, and then edit a call the the TZO.Signon client into the "custom" DNS script.

The TZO.Signoff client can be added to your standard shutdown processing.

Hope this helps,

Steve
