I usually do research before I get into something, and consider my choice, thereafter, to be a very good choice. So when I chose SME I chose it for the long haul. I am Beta Testing SME 8.0 Beta 4 in a Construction shop as a file server and a web hosting, ftp hosting, Quickbooks hosting, and whatever else a plumbing shop would need hosting server. I want to know what do the team need from the testers. I read the post on ClearOS being competition, and how no one is helping SME. Well I want to help. Rather than jump ship, I believe we have an advantage with SME. Don't have a concrete answer why, but I'm sticking it out. Don't know how long SME 8 been in beta, and the one thing thats causing me problem is the Domain controller for Windows 7, but I believe all of this can be fixed. Just need the COMMUNITY to help, from what I hear. So, I'm here.

Also, I went to the link for volunteers. I can donate, and be the noob user they talk about, just thought it was more I could do. Like open up my server for observation to the team, being it is a full use server&gateway by a noob. LOL. Well, whatever it takes!

Yes, that is eactly what is needed for SME8 to come alive - that more users of the community help with testing and bug verification.

As Cactus shows already in his post, this is already fixed with a newer Samba version in the next SME8 beta 5. If you upgrade your current SME8 beta 4 via yum to beta 5, you could do more field testing on that (and other) features.

Don't be shy of the bugtracker, look through existing bugs and especially the 'resolved' column. I usually start from here:

cool by me. didn't even know about the beta 5 update. A lot of you may not know, but this wiki, and forum Q&A, stuff is very new to a lot of us. And may seem hard to navigate.  But the simple link like above set me straight on a lot of things! Truth be told, I used SME for a year now, and all ive ever done was go to the google search on the side, never even used the other search, but knowing that its info lying around the site, I just need to dig down and find it. Cool!

Without in any way trying to be rude or offensive,  PLEASE use you eyes. There are links at the top of these forum to just about all main sections of contribs.org, except the actual Contribs (applications) page. The main Wiki page link is a good starting place as it has the links to everything including manuals, contribs and sme8 information. Please explore the site fully as there is a wealth of information available.
