Move your hard drive(s) to exact same port locations, and re-run Configure this server.

If the mobo is significantly different, you will need to do a CD upgrade install, so the right modules get installed to suit the new mobo and architecture etc.

Uuuuhm:
  • Download ISO
  • Burn ISO to CD-ROM
  • Boot from CD-ROM
  • Choose the appropriate options
That ain't rocket science, or is it? :-)

My server just crashed and I'm trying to restore from by backups on my windows XP Pro workstation? Everything is on the same network? on the USB i have set0 set1 set2 set3 Dar and dar-catalog files  I need to have these items more explained more Pleased?

The Server is SME7.4

When I try to Verify workstation backup file
Unable to mount workstation shared folder mount: mount to NFS server 'localhost' failed: System Error: Connection refused.

Restore server configuration from workstation backup
Unable to mount workstation shared folder mount: mount to NFS server 'localhost' failed: System Error: Connection refused.

Workstation selective file restore
Unable to mount workstation shared folder mount: mount to NFS server 'localhost' failed: System Error: Connection refused.

Restore server configuration from workstation backup
No directory for your host in shared folder. Maybe your host name is different from backup ones?

Or restore from /mount/xxxxUSB/  using Midnight Commander on the server? Midnight Commander can't see the files or folders?

You refer to backups on a workstation, but also refer to backups on USB ???

If restoring from USB, then the process is to reinstall a fresh copy of sme7.4, then connect your USB drive to the server when prompted (with the backup on it). During the first boot up you will be asked if you want to restore from the USB backup.
Couldn't be easier, so what is your problem.

PS I'm sure backups and restores are covered in the manual so please read that again here
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter10
and
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter6#Option_8:_Perform_backup_to_USB_device
and
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_with_dar

and also read this for general info.
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config#Restore_on_initial_reboot_after_fresh_OS_install_-_How_to_Reset_option

PS If restoring from a workstation backup, then you need to give your newly installed server the same main domain name as it had previously. That's so it recongnizes the backup sets. Of course the workstation share should also be accessible from the newly installed server ie same IP range etc.

The method of restore will depend on the method you used to do the backup, so please advise how did you do the backup and where was it backed up to.
ie
If the restore was done using the default server manager backup and restore panel, then you use the same panel to do the restore.

If you did a backup to USB using the admin console menu, then you restore this after a clean install os sme OS, and during the first boot. When prompted you attach the USB Drive.

I'm guessing that your USB drive may not have mounted correctly and it has no backup on it at all. See the USB drive Howto. The USB drive may also not be formatted correctly.

To help you do a restore, first you must tell us the following information.

Please describe step by step how you performed the backup ?

You previously mentioned bacup to workstation and USB, which is it ?

Exactly where was the backup saved to ?

I Have it

Backup is Enabled.
Backup is made on local USB disk
Destination backup share folder is media/CIDHOSTINGB
Number of rotating backup sets is 4
Number of daily backups contained in each set is 1
Compression level (0-7) of backup is 6
Daily backup occurs at 22:00
Each daily backup session is cleanly timed out after 8 hours.except full backups which are cleanly timed out after 24 hours
Full backup sessions (new backup set) are allowed everyday

But when I look at it @mc /media/CIDHOSTINGB  it showes onlt
* ldlinux.sys
*syslinux.cfg
*ubninit
*ubnkern
*vesamenu.c32    all Dated Feb 7 16:43

it should be doing updates every nite because I'm getting emails saying it has completed the backups.
Thanks All

Perhaps you are not mounting the USB drive before viewing it using mc ?

mount /media/CIDHOSTINGB
mc
View folder & files
Release access to drive
cd /root
Then unmount drive
umount /media/CIDHOSTINGB
