SCSI and Mitel Server install
« on: June 18, 2002, 05:49:01 PM »
Hi all.

I'm going to install Mitel 5.1.2 on a Dell P2 with two 9G SCSI drives.

SCSI adapter: Adaptec AHA-2940U2/U2W PCI SCSI Controller

Drives: Quantum Atlas IV 9 WLS

I've never installed Linux (any flavor) onto SCSI before. Is there anything I need to be aware of before I start this? Or will everything just get detected and go smoothly like with IDE drives? I'm not looking to do a RAID setup or anything like that.

I know the adapter itself is supported under linux.

Just wondering if there's any quirks or whatever that I should be aware of before I start.

Thanks,
john

Only that SME will only install onto one of the drives unless you set it up as a software raid installjohn wrote:

Hmmm.

So if I do a raid installation, all should be good? full access to both drives?

thx,
john

(sorry for what are probably stupid questions, i've just never dealt with scsi and/or raid before.)

Full access but  they will appear as one drive in SME. So if you had 2 X 10 Gig drives then you will have 10 Gig of storage space less the room that the Operating system takes up. The raid in SME is just mirrored drives hence only half the total drive space assuming equal size drives.

that certainly sucks.

so what then? install without RAID, then add the second drive? I need more than one drive worth of space (9G).

If I add 2nd drive post-install, what's the best place to mount it?

thx,
john

Unfortunately John  I am not sure of the best mount point for the second drive but a search through past posts shows that this question has been asked before so hopefully that will yield some answers. To save myself this hassle I just installed an 80 Gig drive
