Clam malformed database error, stopping email
« on: April 12, 2010, 05:39:15 AM »
Hi all

Just ran into this prob on a coupla servers.

Clients reported Email clients giving errors that related to 'too many connections' & email sending & receiving failed.

Scouting around the 'net' I find most peeps are seeing database probs reported in the logs, so checking /var/log/clamd/current I see the 'malformed database' issue reported.

Jumped into the /var/clamav folder * deleted/moved:  main.cvd, main.cld, daily.cvd, daily.cld, bytecode.cvd & then ran freshclam.

Once freshclam reported it completed successfully I ran signal-event email-update to be sure all mail components were fully functional.  Checked the log files & they report that things are happy again.

There are a coupla bugs in bugzilla that relate to this issue, for both 7.x & 8.x, have a read for more info:

7.x

http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5874

8.x

http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5868

This has only occurred when I upgraded to the latest clamav (0.96.1) from the smeupdates-testing repo.

HTH
