prob with local access and site from primary bay.
« on: May 15, 2010, 11:54:40 AM »
i'm trying to set up a sme 7.4 this time changed from 8.0beta since there doesn't seem to be that much documentation on that one.
my problem is a two parter ..
1. some how i'm not getting through to the server from out side source. every thing i try just stops at my router.
i have tried forwarding ports using dmz and dyndns .. but it just want show me the primary site message Under Construction.
i have worked with some server and web stuff before but never had a problem forwarding ports.

2. i have two networks one with the sme server and an other with WHS(same router). i tried setting up an other local network but the i get the error router can't be reached. all i need for the WHS is local connection since it takes care of autobackups and media storage.
i might be f-ing some thing up with the ip settings .. been a few years since i have tried some thing like this ..

any ways any help would be great ... if there is soem info that can clear things i'll post it if asked .

thx

Perhaps you can show us a basic diagram of your network including IP ranges, might make it easier for us to spot issues.

very simple .. the clients don't get access to WHS shares ..and the Whs dosn't get access to sme network.
it can still send data to clients about status

whs 192.168.1. -- no clients only local media serv and internet downloads
port1                        printers and of course the autobackup of all family computers
router
         port2                                >client
              sme 7.4 192.168.11.1 -- >client
                                                >client

when i connect the WHS to the same hub as other clients then it works .. but i want it to have it's own access direct through router ..
my though was to add it as local network but then SME wants router ip which i can't seem to find ...

have tried a few ...

oh and there seems to be a problem with port forwarding on my router there for i have trouble with remote access to websites.. i'm working on that one seperatly

Hi

I would suspect that it was a NAT issue but since It sounds more like a firewall problem or as you mentioned a port forwarding issue on the sme server can you do a nmap -sS -O <Ip address to you other side> to see what you can access on that side?
