« on: June 21, 2002, 04:49:13 PM »
Hello !

I will get two PCs :
* first with Linux (mandrake 8.2)
* second with Win Me

I've currently a ADSL modem.

I's like to connect the first machine on Internet and share the connexion with the second machine.

Wich hardware I need ?

must I SME Server to do this ?

THx in advance !

To use SME, you need a separate computer just for NAT routing (internet connection sharing). You can accomplish the same thing with WinMe/WinXP's ICS feature, or with one of those little broadband routers from Linksys, D-Link, NetGear, etc. Whatever you have directly connected to the internet connection (SME, Linksys router, WinMe PC, etc.) will have to be turned on for the other computer(s) to be able to access the internet.

Thanks for your answer...

"To use SME, you need a separate computer"

:( this software *need* a separate computer ???

I'd like a software like "WinGate" under WindowsOS....

I don't want to by a broadband router (it is too expensive...)

No solution to make this under Linux ??? :(

SME is a separate, dedicated server.  Take a look at the user's guide.  It's much more than you're looking for.  Yes, there's stuff like wingate and winroute, or you can also configure your Mandrake box to share the connection, but doing so is WAY off-topic here.

If you don't want to use a third computer, you don't want SME.  Period.
