what i need is to assign a user with "admin" rights to maintain the 7.5 server users (add/remove users, mail accounts etc.) but i do not want this same user to have rights to the root/admin account or my personal account on the sme 7.5 server

After installing user manager, go to server manager and you will see a new panel to configure access rights to user manager panels on a per user basis. The "admin rights" user then logs into user manager with their own user name and password and will have access to the panels they have rights to use.
You can set limited access for non admin users, to say just one panel. if you want, etc etc.

User manager does not provide that degree of access control.

Bud, you could open a NFR to exclude admin user in usermanager contrib

mary thanks for your reply

Stefano do you mean NFR = New Feature Request

is there a way to say create a " group " and then place the relevant users in that group then give the new " admin user " rights to only that group of users to change or add users to the created group?

i am trying to prevent this one new " admin user " NOT to have the ability to change my account or the admin user account.

any ideas on what can be done?

Yes, NFR = New Feature Request

In Linux you can do whatever can be coded. Some things are less difficult, some more difficult. It becomes a case of how much cost or effort is required to achieve a desired end result, and whether that effort is practical to carry out.

Your request is a good one, but someone will have to do the coding. Either the original author of the user manager or someone else may be prepared to code. If not, you will need to pay someone to do the coding, assuming there is an acceptable cost/outcome ratio.

You should submit a NFR at bugzilla against the contrib category (if it exists).

For now your only option is to not allow that user to have access to the Users panel.
On the other hand, if you are allowing that user to control the sme server, surely they can be trusted not to tamper with your or the admin users passwords ?

mary thanks again

ok, so how can i "prevent" this "new admin" user to NOT being able to use the https://smeserver/server-manager Management System Option as i do not trust this user but the boys at the top of the company want me to give this "new admin" user the rights to add/delete/change users on the sme server.

any ideas?

Your question is contradictory.
Please learn to configure and use the User manager.
Re-read the second post in this thread.
Just do not allow access to the User panel for that user.
