RPC over HTTP for SBS2008; SME mail filtering as server only

Yo all

I have an SBS2008 box with an SME in front that provides mailfiltering & proxy services.

2 issues have arisen with this setup.  Firstly is that I need RPC over HTTP to work to the SBS box and from the research I've done getting this to work through Apache looks messy.  Secondly is that if I move the SME out of the way (from gateway mode to server only mode) to allow RPC over HTTP direct access to the SBS box then will the internal mail server config on the SME work.

Darell May seems to think it does in this (http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=39894.0) post but I'd like confirmation if someone else has actually got it working.

Optimally I'd like to have RPC over HTTP work through the SME so if anyone has this working & would like to share their mods I'd love to see them.

PPTP vpn passthrough to the SBS box would also be viable if anyone has this working.

Cheers

I have RPC over HTTP working on a SBS2003 server with SMEServer in Server and Gateway mode in front of it.
To get it to work I had to forward port 443 to the SBS2003 server.
If you are willing to forward port 443, I can try to help you get the rest of it done.

.. hmm, woz hoping to avoid a blanket forward of 443 otherwise how do I log into the Server Manager, just from inside the network I guess.

Ok, hit me with the required changes.

Does it not just work with ProxyPass? If not, why not? What are the symptoms when something doesn't work?

smeghead: accessing server-manager from wan is not a good thing, even if via https

use vpn or a ssh tunnel
