Smallbox, what about the fact that the current version is SME7 and the beta of the next release is SME8? :-)

so, you can't "upgrade" SME8 to SME7

anyway, please explain your problem and not your solution, thank you

That would be called a "downgrade", and is NOT automatically supported by SME.

Assuming you have a known good full backup from just before you performed the 7>>8 upgrade, then you would need to do a clean reinstall of sme7.5 from CD and then restore your backup and reinstall any contribs.

If you do not have a backup you are in trouble, although there are ways to retrieve the data by starting up in rescue mode, and copying data off to another mounted disk etc. Too involved for a short quick answer here, although answered more extensively quite recently in these forums.

As Stefano suggested, your best path to resolve this will be to report a bug. The devs want to resolve upgrade from 7>>8 releases so that the upgrade works correctly by the time a sme 8 RC & Final versions are released.

Please report your problem and follow through with answers as it will definitely help the development cycle.

Mary, IIUC OP has just updated his SME8, not upgraded from 7 to 8

Well Smallbox does not clearly say ie
"Today I upgrade my SME Server 8 beta 5....."
As OP wants to downgrade to 7, then it seemed likely that the upgrade to 8 had been made from sme7.5.1

Smallbox, did you upgrade from sme7.5.1 or upgrade from an earlier sme8 version ?

Either way you should still lodge a bug.
I think I recall a bug about NICs being not identified correctly, so search bugzilla first.
You do not say why you cannot run "Configure this server" , because that would be the obvious thing to do. If you do not have network access due to NIC issues, then login as admin directly at the server console.

In fact, it is not supported at all. I don't know of any manual way to downgrade an SME8 system to SME 7.5.1.
