3.1 is coming
« on: August 30, 2010, 11:10:29 PM »
Hello

3.1 is just about ready for beta.  It's about a 60% rewrite of the mainline and it is quite different to earlier releases.  It also looks a fair bit different.

We'll put a guide up onto the wiki in a few days.

Kind Regards

S

Awesome! Does it have integration with SME beyond the web interface, such that when I create an SME user I can also assign an extension, voice mail box, default password?

No, 3.1 isn't linked to linux users.  Its likely that the kind of functionality you suggest will be delivered using LDAP.  You can already define the data to LDAP and some phones, for example Snoms, can query the data in real time.

Kind Regards

Yes, LDAP is the "right" way to build it - however, all I'm looking for is a "merge" of the two configuration screens, so to speak, so when you fill out the form for the SME linux user you also have fields that will populate sail/asterisk.

By what mechanism does Sail integrate with SME's current management pages? Is it XML?

Right now I have to say I was surprised by the amount of configuration work that had to be done in Sail 2. I would have thought the menus would be more mature, the help more helpful, etc. for a "Small Medium Enterprise" system. I can't see someone other than a linux-hardware hack making this work. The promise or premise of SME is to be an easy-to-use/easy-to-administer "friendly" system for mere business mortals. Sure, Sail makes it easier to configure asterisk, but like I can't imagine setting up asterisk without it, I also can't imagine anyone doing it without willingness to invest in a lot of head scratching and trial and error. And the 2.x docs are out of step with the current release, too...

Future releases need to keep up with asterisk, and blaze a new admin path, too. IMHO :)

I could agree with you, but what you are asking for needs money and time to be done.. are you interested? if so, make a big donation to SME or code yourself/pay someone to code it for you..
there's no other way
