Raid Expansion
« on: September 13, 2010, 04:44:56 PM »
I have some issues setting up my raid array.

Disk 1 is the disk I installed SME on.
I then proceeded to add another 2 disks. Had some issues but it picked up and set up the raid once I configured the disks.
Disk 4-5 is a problem. For some reason I am not able to create my partition in the same way as disks 2-3. On Disk 1-3 I have some overlap where the Start and End location on the disk for partition 1 is 1-13. Partition 2 starts at 13 and runs to the end of the drive. Since I can now only build a second partition from 14 onwards, I have tried to install bigger drives so as to comply with minimum space requirements but no joy. It is my understanding that once you have 4 disks in the server, the system will automatically convert from mirror with spare to raid 5.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

The reason I wanted to change array's was space consideration as I want to introduce IMAP.

I have decided to go with replacing the disks with bigger drives and growing the array once space becomes critical. It seems quite a bit easier than changing from one array to another.
